Montessori-Inspired: DIY Tactical Letters Cards...

I love the Montessori sandpaper letter and number cards.  Especially as the princess is learning to write, these cards with tactile letters on them would be a great method for introducing the form of each letter and creating "muscle memory" of how the letters are shaped.

I made our set of tactical letter cards from two types of card stock.

The tan colored is a smooth piece of plain card stock, and the blue is card stock with a glitter finish, which gives it a rough texture.

See how rough the blue card stock is?  It has a very gritty texture, which makes it easy for little fingers to trace.

Making the cards was as simple as cutting the letters from the blue card stock, and cutting rectangles from the tan card stock, then using a bit of heavy-duty glue to affix the letter to the rectangle.

While not traditional Montessori, these tactile letters were easy, affordable, and are a great way to introduce writing the letters.  The Princess helped make them, and using the scissors to cut out all the letters was great for the small muscles in her hands!

  2. I love your idea of using regular card stock and card stock with a glitter finish. It's so easy to work with in putting together a set of textured letters!
