Action Words: A Teaching Game

The weather was so beautiful today that we just could NOT stay indoors!  So, I grabbed a set of "action word" cards I made a while back, along with a smooth rock from our sensory box and a tray, and headed outside to play an action words teaching game.

This was super-easy, but the kids (all three of them) had a lot of fun with it, and it reinforced their reading skills and their knowledge of action words.

I laid the cards out on the tray, then let the kids "drop" the rock onto the tray.  Whatever rock it landed on, they had to read the word, then everyone did the action.  The Princess had no trouble with the words, Bub did great in sounding them out, and Bigger Bit needed some help with them (obviously, since she's only 2. But it did reinforce the concept that letters form a word, which has a specific meaning associated with it).

Our first word was "jump".

The Princess caught on to the idea of just moving the rock to whatever word she wanted next, instead of dropping it onto a random word.
Bub tried to pick words that were easy for him to read (phonetic "CVC" words).
The Princess getting ready to hop!

Bub's "super high" jump!

The action words cards were so simple to put together that I didn't even bother to upload them to Scribd. But, I have them in PDF format, so if you want them, send a quick email, and I'll upload them for you!
