Everyday Education: Self-directed shadow matching

The Princess (who is 4) was working on a math worksheet today when she became distracted by her shadow on the paper.

She asked for a blank sheet of paper (I only had printer paper, although construction paper would have been a better option), and proceeded to hold her hand above the paper so it made a shadow... She used a crayon to trace around the outline of her shadow on the paper...  This is not so easy, and was GREAT fine motor skills practice.

When she was done tracing (she traced her hand with her fingers open, then again with her fingers closed), she compared the shadow of her actual hand to the drawing she'd made - a perfect fit!
She then "borrowed" Bub's hand, which made a MUCH bigger shadow then the one she'd traced.

And, upon examination, Bigger Bit's had was much too small for the outline.
